A sea of dedicated fans jumping up and down filled the 11,000 capacity Echo Arena. Ten seconds into their opening song- ‘Are You in Love with a Notion?’, it became abundantly clear that The Courteeners show no signs of slowing down. Stormzy- Deserving Headliner or Questionable Booking Decision?

Image
Last week, Emily Eavis announced Glastonbury Festivals first headliner for 2019 amid speculation on various social media platforms. To many peoples delight, and also to many peoples dismay, it was confirmed that Stormzy would headline the Pyramid Stage on the Friday night at next years edition of the festival. One can only imagine that headlining Glastonbury festival must be the most prestigious and illustrious of all occasions for a musician. A celebration of the given musicians successful career, all culminating to a headline slot at the most acclaimed festival in the world. If the rumours are correct, Stormzy will be joined by The Cure and Paul McCartney as headliners at next years festival. Both acts are ones which have had stellar musical careers spanning over decades. Numerous iconic albums and years upon years of touring has given The Cure legendary status in the industry and opting for Paul McCartney as a headliner needs no further explanation. Of course, the remaining two he...

Bands you should be listening to #7: DMA's

Image
Drawing inspiration from a band of Oasis' calibre is always a dangerous game to play. Perfectly justifiable, of course, but a dangerous game to play. Trying to emulate the showmanship and songwriting skills of the aforementioned can often lead to a failure of colossal proportions. You'd be hard pressed to find an emerging band from Manchester who don't claim to have drawn some kind of inspiration from Oasis, in some point of their careers. One particular band take tremendous pride in doing so, however, aren't Mancunian. Or British, for that matter. Australian three-piece, DMA's, formed in 2012, in Sydney. They quickly gained themselves a reputation as the 'Australian Oasis'. In doing so, they portrayed a likeness to Oasis that no British band can currently claim to. They've adopted the retro sportswear, the high-pitched monotonous vocals and the mid-pace gritty sound that Oasis became synonymous with. Despite growing up on the other side of the wo...

My top 20 albums of all time.

Image
Ones taste in music can change drastically over a prolonged period of time. Certain artists or bands that were once favoured can become a mere afterthought in your personal music directory given a change in preference of genre or just due to sheer realisation. All music fans can recall listening to some pretty questionable music throughout their childhood. Yet certain recordings will stay with you forever. Albums that are simply timeless. Albums that have an emotional effect on you as a listener. Albums that are just truly iconic. So without further a do, the following list consists of my personal top 20 albums of all time, at the time of writing, of course. As anyone would find when compiling a similar list, it is pretty difficult to narrow down so many outstanding compilations, therefore I have included some honorable mentions that didn't quite make the cut: LCD Soundsytem- Sound Of Silver The XX- xx Jamie T- Panic Prevention Kanye West- Late Registration Wolf Alice- Your L...

Bands you should be listening to #6: Asylums

Image
In this day and age, it is becoming worryingly more common for talented guitar bands to slip under the radar as a variety of other genres become increasingly more popular. Although the genre might appear to be on its knees, there are a handful of bands currently flying the flag for guitar bands up and down the country, however, not to the extent that was seen 10 or 20 years ago. Even so, there are masses of truly fantastic bands around that are acting as a saving grace for the genre. The kind of bands that you stumble across on Spotify when at a loose end and wonder why they're not 10 times as popular as they are. The kind of bands that have you hooked after 30 seconds of one song. The kind of bands that make you want a book a ticket to one of their shows imminently. A prime example being Southend four-piece- Asylums. Consisting of Luke Branch on vocals and guitar, Jazz Miell on guitar, Michael Webster on bass and Henry Tyler on drums, Asylums are responsible for writin...

Bands you should be listening to #5: Gerry Cinnamon

Image
Although initially starting this blog with the idea of writing predominantly about up and coming bands and allowing them to reach a wider audience in the process, it is near impossible to ignore the sheer talent and beautiful sound of Scottish singer songwriter- Gerry Cinnamon. Thanks due in part to my weekly release radar on Spotify, I stumbled across arguably Cinnamon's best song 'Sometimes'. I have been hooked ever since, playing the song on repeat, alongside many other songs from his simply outstanding recently released debut album- Erratic Cinematic. I was amazed at how much I related to the  heartfelt lyrics of coming of age song 'Sometimes', and I believe there are masses of  other 20 year old lads that would too. Also taking notice to the raw singer/songwriter vibe, gritty Scottish vocals and passionate meaning behind each song, this is when I knew I'd found an absolute treasure in Gerry Cinnamon. Cinnamon, born in Castlemilk, Glasgow, has always ...
