Bands you should be listening to #2: Jordan Allen


Judging by the name alone, Jordan Allen could easily be mistaken for a solo artist, however they are an up and coming band making waves on the indie circuit, ironically fronted by lead vocalist Jordan Allen. Although not the most imaginative of names, Jordan Allen's infectious lyrics, gritty instrumentals and catchy hooks make them one of the most exciting young bands to have risen from obscurity in the last year. 

Although from Westhoughton, a town 13 miles north west of Manchester, you can easily draw similarities between them and some of the most successful bands to have come from from the city that is synonymous with creating some of the best bands of all time. Leadman Jordan's vocals sound typically 'Mancunian' and the band possesses a similar sound to the one that made The Courteeners the success that they are today, whilst also retaining an element of exclusivity and uniqueness in their own sound. 

With only 7 songs currently available on Spotify, it won't be long before a debut album is released and Allen's tracks are rolling off critics tongues and being blasted out by thousands of fans up and down the country. Of the songs already released, 'Helter Skelter' is a personal favourite. Equipped with meaningful lyrics, a dense guitar sound and intense drumming, it has the makings of a true indie anthem in the same category as 'Not Nineteen Forever'. 

The eponymous band have slowly built a reputation for playing lively sets when supporting bands such as The Sherlocks on their nationwide tours, with incredible stage presence, crowd interaction and witty humour being the main talking points. A song that has a particularly strong effect on the audience at their live gigs is '110 Ways to Make Things Better', which was written as a tribute to Jordan's late father. Regardless of the meaning behind the song, Jordan Allen maintain a sense of enthusiasm throughout the entirety of every set, blasting out lyrics and playing their instruments with severe intensity. 

Although relatively unheard of amongst mainstream music fans, I have great faith that it won't be long before Jordan Allen are selling out large venues to thousands of fans on their very own headline tour. However, you can catch them on their upcoming nationwide tour, starting on the 30th November 2017. Playing a host of intimate and edgy venues across the UK, for an extraordinarily cheap fee, it is not to be missed. Tickets are on sale now and are available for the following venues:

Stormzy- Deserving Headliner or Questionable Booking Decision?

Last week, Emily Eavis announced Glastonbury Festivals first headliner for 2019 amid speculation on various social media platforms. To many peoples delight, and also to many peoples dismay, it was confirmed that Stormzy would headline the Pyramid Stage on the Friday night at next years edition of the festival. One can only imagine that headlining Glastonbury festival must be the most prestigious and illustrious of all occasions for a musician. A celebration of the given musicians successful career, all culminating to a headline slot at the most acclaimed festival in the world. Bands you should be listening to #6: Asylums

In this day and age, it is becoming worryingly more common for talented guitar bands to slip under the radar as a variety of other genres become increasingly more popular. Although the genre might appear to be on its knees, there are a handful of bands currently flying the flag for guitar bands up and down the country, however, not to the extent that was seen 10 or 20 years ago. Even so, there are masses of truly fantastic bands around that are acting as a saving grace for the genre. The kind of bands that you stumble across on Spotify when at a loose end and wonder why they're not 10 times as popular as they are.
